An 'Old Chalk Pit' is marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map to the south of Castle Lane, Buckland Newton (OS 1888 (1)). The pit is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM Project; a second smaller hollow is situated 80m to the west.
