Full Description

[Area centred SY 4655 9308] NORTH STREET is shown on WEEK'S COURT LANE. [Probably a corruption of WICK'S COURT LANE] Hutchins mentions a chapel to ST JAMES which stood 'in WIKE'S COURT LANE, on the North side of WEST STREET BRIDPORT, now a dwelling house'.

The walls along North Street are mixture of old and new. No feature of an ecclesiastical nature was found and no information was obtained during field investigation which would make possible the siting of this chapel. <2>

Wikes Court Lane is now North Street. The location of this chapel is not known with any certainty and other than the Hutchins reference the chapel is unknown. Penn suggests its location is to the north of Rax Lane on the west side of North Street <3> but this would place it in Bradpole Parish, so perhaps its location was further to the south.
