Full Description
Banked linear features to the west of Alton Pancras are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features are considered to be those of a relatively continuous, although now severaly fragmented, field system of later prehistoric, potentially Iron Age to Roman, origin. They incorporate features recorded under MDO87. Along the upper edges of Rake Bottom some of the features mix with an area of medieval strip lynchets (MDO72). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
