Full Description

An area of curvilinear ridged and ditched cultivation marks to the west of Alton Pancras are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The ridges are around 8m apart and slightly curvilinear and might be medieval ridge and furrow, although they are narrower than an area of broad ridge and furrow to the east (MDO44787) so a post medieval origin is also possible. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project. The features are no longer visible on current lidar imagery.
