A finger post on the A31 shown on the 1:25-inch scale Ordnance Survey map published in 1888. The post is of cast iron and painted red with white lettering.

‘BERE REGIS, DORSET NGR SY884971 on the A31 between Wimborne and Bere Regis. Made of cast-iron, all in red but with white lettering. A finial gives the map reference and the words RED POST. It was described as ‘Guide Post’ on the 1st edition of O.S. 1:2500 County Series Dorset, 1888. It was first described as ‘Red Post’ on the 2nd edition Dorset XXXIII.15, 1902. The A31 Bere Regis post is by a boundary stone and a parish boundary.’
