Full Description
'Tis wrote from Weymouth, that on the 6th instant a French ship, bound from Nantz to Dunkirk, was stranded near Portland, but her crew were all saved.' (1)
NB: The dating of the source, 1726-7, reflects the two calendars then in use. Prior to 1752, the New Year began in England on the 25th of March, so that dates between 1st January and 24th March inclusive were dated in this 'Old Style' reckoning one year "behind" the Modern 'New Style' calendar adopted in England in 1752. However, 'New Style' was already in use in Europe, so many sources of this period reflect both forms of usage. For indexation, the 'New Style' date, as the modern usage, is followed.
