Summary

Antiquarian Charles Warne described earthworks of an 'ancient British village' somewhere in the vicinity of Woodsford. According to Warne, two shale bracelets and a few fragments of pottery were found at the site. The exact location is not known.

Full Description

In the neighbourhood of Woodsford and the adjacent heath is an 'ancient British village with its meres or boundary banks, trackways, etc ... where two beautiful Kimmeridge shale amulets' were found. A few fragments of pottery were also found. Situated a few hundred yards from two tumuli. <1>

This site was not located during field investigation. No information was obtained at the gravel pits which occupy most of Outer Heath, SY 755877; and Woodsford Heath, SY 765885 is part of a disused wartime airfield. <2>
