Full Description

Six bronze celts found by a boy in a field near Turnpike Road, Dewlish. In the possession of Charles Hall, 1845. The Hall collection was purchased by the Dorset County Museum in 1912 amongst which were five palstaves referred to in <1.1>. It is reasonable to conclude that the palstaves were found together and comprise a hoard. <1-2>

Five MBA palstaves are on show in the Dorset Co. Museum and, according to the display card, the sixth one of this find has
been lost. No two of the palstaves are identical and each one is unbroken. <3>

The old Turnpike Road ran from the Turnpike House (SY 7809 9642) past Crawthorne Farm (SY 7758 9679) and through part of
Dewlish House Park. (SY 765 970) to the present Dewlish road. <4>

No identification of the find-spot of this M.B.A. hoard was possible during investigation in the area. <5>
