Full Description

Dorchester is mentioned in 864 as a Saxon royal residence. In 1066 Dorchester had a borough with 172 houses and a mint. By 1086 88 houses were standing. In 1106 Dorchester was held in fee-farm by the burgesses. In 1244 it was represented by its own burgesses at the eyre. <1>
