Summary

On July 18th 1778 some labourers dug up at Woodlands fragments of a large earthen vessel, which contained some Roman brass penates, rings and brooches. The exact find spot is not known.

Full Description

July 18th 1778, some labourers dug up at Woodlands, near Cranborne, fragments of a large earthen vessel, which contained some brass penates, rings, fibulae & etc but the steward seized the whole. The bronze dagger [See Dorset 16SW3] was found near here. <1>

No further information was obtained during field investigations. The Shaftsbury Estates - which own much of the land in the area - were consulted but proved of no assistance. <2>
