Full Description
Mansham Park (unlocated) is referred to in Patent Rolls 1315 as "...complaint by William de Whytefeld that... The Abbot of Bynedon ... at Mansham, Co. Dorset, cut down his treet ... broke his park there and took and drove away certain beasts impounded there by him and his servants...". Wilson stated that the de Whytefelds were seated at Woodsford Castle; William de Whytefeld being granted licence to crenellate in 1337. Wilson added that it seemed likely that this part of Dorset may hide the site of Mansham Park. There is no evidence to suggest that the alleged "park" in the area of Sares Wood was the location of Mansham Park.
(No place name evidence for the park in the Woodsford area, shown in EPNS Dorset 1 1977 186-88 (A D Mills)). <1>
