Summary

Barrow. Amber, shale and gold ornaments

Map

Type and Period (1)

Full Description

From a barrow in Dorset, perhaps at Puddletown, came ornaments of amber and shale, in the form of a cone very much depressed, coated with thin gold plate, engraved with concentric, diagonal and zig zag lines. (1)

Barrel shaped beads of shale, about nine tenths of an inch long covered with gold wire.

(It is not clear, but is considered probable that paragraphs 1 and 2 refer to the same finds but authority (2) suggests that they are possibly separate burials).

Grave goods of Wessex Culture (2).

No further information regarding the site(s) of these finds was obtained during field investigation. (3)
