Full Description

At Sutton Poyntz, there was a chapel of ease to Preston. In Dean Chandlers Register of 1405, the chapel is said to have had altars dedicated to St Giles and Mary Magdalen. The site was occupied by a poorhouse until that was pulled down on the alteration of the poor-law. In '1867' the only remaining pieces of the chapel were three trip-knobs surmounting the gables and porch of the village school. <1>

Prospect Cottage is locally known to stand on the site of an old chapel. 'I do not know its dedication nor of any foundations being dug up'. No remains of the chapel are visible in, or around, Prospect Cottage. <3>
