Full Description

East Cruxton Farmhouse, situated 50 yds SE of Cruxton Manor (SY 69 NW 14), is a two-storeyed coursed ashlar and flint building of two periods. The south range is 17th century with stone mullioned windows and a blocked doorway with square moulded label. The north range is 18th century with sashes and casements. On the edge of the lane, 20 yds SW of the house is a slightly tapering square stone slab, 5ft high, of unknown purpose. <1>

(SY 60299650). East Cruxton Farmhouse, as described, was formerly known as Manor Farm, but Mr Pike had no knowledge of any manorial associations. The large uninscribed stone mentioned by Authy 1 is situated at SY 60289646. It is considerably weathered but stands 1.5m high and 0.5m square at the base, tapering towards the top. No indication of its purpose can be offered but it may be Medieval or later. <2>

East Cruxton Farmhouse was destroyed and replaced by a bungalow before 1971. The `stone' is on the east side of the road at the corrected reference SY 60279649 and is as described above (see GP). Surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <4>
