Full Description

An oval hillock with the long axis east to west, the east terminal ofa sandy ridge that gradually rises from the west. It rises about 28ft and is composed of Bracklesham Beds gravel. All the surface indications show it to have been caused naturally. <2>

Natural mound. <3>

Not investigated, site falls within active military range; unexploded bombs in area. Apparently a natural feature. <4>

'Black Barrow' is a natural feature. <5>

'Black Barrow' is a very prominent natural feature, its long axis lying NE-SW; it has been quarried, especially at the SW end, and there are disturbances on top which might be quarries or antiquarian excavations. A slight hedge bank encircles the foot of the mound, suggesting possibly its inclusion in a designed landscape - the ruins of 'Wareham Lodge' lie close to the NE end of the mound. There are further woodland banks about 130m to the W. <6>
