Full Description
10 Greek autonomous bronze coins from Charlton Marshall in the collection of the Rev. Thomas Rackett.
Acc. To Rackett, 'An inhabitant of the ph.of Charlton Marshall in Dorsetshire named John Ford having brought to me some Greek coins which he found in a field that had been ploughed from time inmemorial but which was now for the first time paralled out in small allotments for potatoes, I desired and charged him to make enquiry and procure whatever coins he might meet with found under similar circumstances in the same field or elsewhere …' .
The coins he obtained from Charlton Marshall were 1 each of Rhegium, Centuripae, the Mamertini, Hiero II, Tauromenium, Antigonus Gonatas, 'Prusias' (not now identifiable in the colln), Autiochus IV, Antioch and Ilerda. 'Four of these are located as from Charlton field and one from Charlton down' [but which is not stated]. <1>
