Full Description
Galton Farmhouse. Farmhouse, of villa type, c.1840. Brick walls in Flemish bond. Brick plinth and plat band between ground and first floors. Hipped slate roof with projecting boxed eaves and parallel ridges. Three brick stacks, in clusters of 4 shafts at party walls on the ridges. Central porch on south wall, brick with dog tooth cornices. Two storeys. 3 windows sashes with thin glazing-bars, stone cills and gauged brick voussoirs crown glass, C19, those at ground floor front replaced with plastic imitations, C20. Porch doorway has a round-arched entrance. Inner door is flush panelled and glazed, C19. Side walls, 3 windows, sashes with thin glazing-bars, C19. Interior: double fronted and double depth plan. C19 window shutters, 4 panel doors. Rear service range, with briok walls and a hipped slate roof with stack on ridge, originally comprised scullery (door), beer cellar (door), loft door, wood stone (door) and privy (door). All doorways have gauged brick arches over. Listing NGR: SY7763485091.
Barn, Cart Shed and Granary, 100 metres north east of Galton Farmhouse. Barn, Cart Shed, Granary of one integrated build, c.1840. Brick walls mainly in Flemish bond. Slate roofs mainly with gable ends. Built to an L-plan at corner of inner farmyard. Barn has opposed entrances with large segmental arch on south side, and square projecting porch on the north side, with double plank doors and a hipped roof. Roof of barn, 6 bays of queen post construction with diagonal strutting. Cart Shed and Granary built at right angles to barn, with Cart Shed on ground floor having entrance out of yard and Granary over with access inside yard. Brick walls mainly in English bond. Cart Shed of four bays with chamfered brick piers and wide segmental arches. Granary has brick stops up with stone treads to a plank door entrance. Part of a model farm group of buildings not now complete. Listing NGR: SY7768385181.
Stables 80 metres north east of Galton Farmhouse. Detached stables, c.1840. Brick walls in English bond. Slate roof with gable ends. One storey raised in C19 to two storeys. 3 windows fixed to ground floor. 3 plank loft doors over. 3 plank stable doors with cambered brick arches over. Part of a model farm group of buildings, not now complete. Listing NGR: SY7767885146. (1)
