Full Description

Cottage Orne, formerly a lodge, is an early 19th century singlestorey brick walled cottage with an attic and thatched roofs. Theconical roof has cusped eaves. <2>

'(29) Cottage Orné (00590365), formerly a lodge at the gateway to the park of 'Gaunt's House' (Hinton Martell (2)), is of one storey with an attic and has brick walls and thatched roofs (Plate 33); it dates from early in the 19th century. The conical roof has cusped eaves (cf. Dorset I, 149; Lyme Regis (37)).'

The Alice Lodge (West Lodge) at Gaunt's House. This gate lodge at the west entrance to Gaunt's House near Holt was designed in the cottage ornee style (a picturesque, rustic style of the 19th century) and built in circa 1809. It is polygonal in shape, with a conical thatched roof and thatched porch.
