Full Description

(ST782292. Silton DMV sited from Auth 3 and OS 6" 1962) Only the parish church, rectory and old manor remain of the old village of Silton. Recorded in Domesday as being held by Edward de Falaice, it was assessed at 8 hides and attached to it were a hide and half which White had in pledge, and 1 hide which had bought from the Bishop of Exeter. The manor was purchased by Sir Hugh Wyndham after the restoration. The village appears to have run along both sides of Oxstalls lane. <3>

Issac Taylor's map of the estates around Silton shows a few buildings along Church Road and South of the lane to the South-West of Manor Farm, but no distinct nucleus. <2>
