Monument record MDO46992 - Possible medieval to post medieval cultivation marks, Sturminster Marshall

Please read our .

Summary

Areas of ridged and ditched cultivation to the south of Sturminster Marshall are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are narrow and regular in form and align with the historic fields in which they are located. Further linear field boundaries of probable post medieval origin (MDO46787) are also visible dividing these fields, the relationship of these to the cultivation ridges is not certain. The features are considered likely to post medieval cultivation marks, although an earlier origin is possible. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
