A fragment of a Neolithic stone axehead was found around 1951 by E L Warre "in a bank (scarp) of an old road about two foot down" circa 100 yards south of Wytherston house.

Full Description

A fragment of a stone axe from WYTHERSTONE, POWERSTOCK. Petrological identification - igneous. In the collection of Capt. E.L. WARE. (1)

CAPT WARRE is my son. He collects objects of archaeological interest and the axe referred to may have come from outside the area. He is at present resident in London but I will inform you in a few days of any information he can supply on the subject. (3)

This implement was found about four years ago, by Edmond L. Warre, "in a bank (scarp) of an old road about two foot down from the normal grass level and a hundred yards south of this house [Wytherston]." It was presented to the London University. (4)
