Find Spot record MDO46963 - Lower Palaeolithic handaxe, West Knighton

Please read our .

Summary

A Lower Palaeolithic handaxe was found on a reject heap, in 1991 by P Harding, in an area of West Knighton Gravel. The object was found in an area of very extensive gravel and sand workings which range over two parishes and have been worked since the 1920s. More palaeoliths may have come from these pits but majority of artefacts seem to come from pits to the east at Moreton Crossways.
