Full Description

Banked linear features to the east of Cockett Hill, Morden, are visible as soilmarks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The features run from Cocket Hill Gate in the west, eastwards to the edge of Phillip's Coppice. At the eastern end there are two parallel banks but for the most part only a single linear bank, forming a partially broken line, is visible. A footpath is shown running west to east from Cocket Hill Gate towards Phillip's Coppice on the OS 1st Edition map and this is also visible as a soilmark, appearing to run first south of and then north alongside the linear banks.

It is possible the features are part of a trackway or field boundary, of potentially medieval or earlier date, possibly even a boundary feature associated with the medieval Litchett Deer Park. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
