Full Description
British coins from a field between Shapwick and Badbury Rings included at least one silver coin and two in copper of the same type. <1>
Two Iron Age coins from the Durden collection were found at Shapwick. One is an uninscribed silver stater of Evans type F:1/2, and the other is an uninscribed bronze coin of Cunobelinus, Evans type XIII:3. <2>
An uninscribed silver stater of the Durotriges, Evans type F:1/2, Mack type 317, that was formerly, in the Durden collection is now
in the Pitt Rivers Museum, Farnham. It was found north east of the village of Shapwick at around ST 9402.
A gold plated bronze stater of Cunobelinus, Mack type 203, 10-13, was also found at Shapwick. It is in the British Museum. <3>
