Summary

Ditched linear features within fields to the east of Winterborne Zelston, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are considered likely to be post medieval drainage ditches, part of a drainage system or small water meadow. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Ditched linear features within fields to the east of Winterborne Zelston, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2, 3]. The features comprise an area of short regular sections of interlinked parallel ridges and ditches adjacent to the River Winterborne, with additional linear ditches beyond these, either side of the river and linked with it. They are considered likely to be post medieval drainage ditches, part of a drainage system or small water meadow. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
