Summary

An irregular hollow within Huish Pit, to the northeast of Winterborne Zelston, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is shown as an earthwork on OS historic mapping, where it is depicted as a tree-filled copse, named Huish Pit. The feature is considered to be an old post medieval extractive pit and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

An irregular hollow within Huish Pit, to the northeast of Winterborne Zelston, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature is shown as an earthwork on OS historic mapping, where it is depicted as a tree-filled copse, named Huish Pit. The feature is considered to be an old post medieval extractive pit and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
