Monument record MDO4680 - Bowl Barrow, Bonsley Common, Shillingstone

A bowl barrow on a gentle slope. In 1970 this monument was recorded as being around 60 feet in diameter with a mound about 6 feet high. The feature is visible as a banked and ditched earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. It was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Two round barrows lie W. of Bonsley Common, close to the parish boundary with Turnworth.

(A) Bowl (81930886), on a gentle S.E. slope at over 700 ft. above O.D.; diam. 50 ft., ht. 6 ft. <2>

A round barrow, one of two, is visible as a banked and ditched earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The feature comprises a 14.75m in diameter mound and a 2-3.5m wide outer ditch. It was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
