Monument record MDO46753 - Possible medieval field boundary, Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall

A banked curvilinear feature to the southeast of Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is considered likely to be a historic field boundary of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

A banked curvilinear feature to the southeast of Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature is of similar character to a series of medieval strip field boundaries (MDO6147) to the north, along the west side of the field, although on a perpendicular axis to these. It is considered likely to be a historic field boundary, also of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
