Summary

Banked curvilinear features in fields to the east of Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. Full Description

Banked curvilinear features in fields to the east of Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features comprise linear banks on a broadly north-south axis, withtwo diverging to the northeast along the north side of an old watercourse or channel. On the west side the features integrate with part of a medieval strip field system (MDO6147) but it is not clear from lidar imagery if these are part of a single field system or one superimposed on the other. The features could potentially be field boundaries of medieval date, but could alternatively be older, possibly later prehistoric in origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
