Monument record MDO46690 - Probable post medieval extractive pits, Old Rectory Wood, Sturminster Marshall

Four probable post medieval extractive pits within Old Rectory Wood, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are most likely chalk or gravel pits. Three of the features are shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map and are recorded as ponds on an OS map dated 1955. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
