Full Description
Two areas of probable post medieval extraction, alongside a smaller sub-circular hollow feature that might also be a post medieval extractive pit, are visible as earthworks to the south of St Mary's Church, Almer, Sturminster Marshall, on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features are most likely chalk or gravel pits. The largest of the features is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map and is recorded as a pond on an OS map dated 1955 [3, 4]. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
