Summary

Two probable post medieval extractive pits to the east of East Almer Farm, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are situated within an area of drainage ditches next to the River Winterborne and are most likely chalk or gravel pits. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Two probable post medieval extractive pits to the east of East Almer Farm, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features are situated within an area of drainage ditches next to the River Winterborne and are most likely chalk or gravel pits. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
