Summary

A group of several probable post medieval extractive pits to the north of East Almer Farm, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The largest and northernmost feature is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map. On an OS map of 1955 this is recorded as a pond. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A group of several probable post medieval extractive pits to the north of East Almer Farm, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The largest and northernmost feature is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map [3]. On an OS map of 1955 this is recorded as a pond [4]. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
