Full Description
A burgage plot lying on the south side of the market place on High Street, Shaftesbury, adjacent to St Peter's Church. It is likely to have originated as part of a pre-or post-conquest planned town development. It is shown on a map dated 1615. It is recorded as the Mitre Inn in the early eighteenth century and subsequently. The present building on the frontage has an eighteenth century core and the map evidence indicates there was considerable changes to the buildings behind the frontage during the nineteenth century. On the 1845 Tithe map it is described as 'Mitre Inn, hop garden, etc'.
