Monument record MDO46659 - Probable post medieval extractive pit, East Almer Farm, Sturminster Marshall

A probable post medieval extractive pit to the north of East Almer Farm, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map. On an OS map of 1955 it is recorded as a pond. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

A probable post medieval extractive pit to the north of East Almer Farm, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map [3]. On an OS map of 1955 it is recorded as a pond [4]. The extent of the feature on lidar imagery suggests a possible linear extension to the west of just over 110m, beyond what is indicated on the 1955 map. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
