Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit to the northeast of Higher Combe Farm, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature is recorded as a chalk pit on the OS 1st Edition map [3]. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. A trackway leading off from the chalk pit to the road to the south is also recorded on the 1st Edition OS map, but this is not visible on any available aerial or lidar imagery.
