Summary

A probable Bronze Age bowl barrow to the northeast of Rail Clump, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as a sub-circular ring ditch on a 2007 aerial photograph and as a low banked mound on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is one of a loose row of probable barrows (NRHE Hob UID 1518301, 1518306, 1518308). Three further possible Bronze Age barrows are situated in the adjacent field (MDOs 46501/46507/46508), extending the loose row to the southwest. A further barrow group (NRHE Hob UID 1518310) is located just over 500m to the east. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A small ring ditch probably from a Bronze Age round barrow seen as a cropmark in 2007 aerial photography. <1>(SY 9295 9894). One of two small ring ditches in a group of three situated along the line of a linear ditch.

A possible Bronze Age bowl barrow to the northeast of Rail Clump, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as a sub-circular ring ditch on a 2007 aerial photograph and as a low banked mound on current Environment Agency lidar imagery <2-3>. The feature is approximately 19m in diameter, slightly elongated or 'spread' to the southeast. The feature might be one of a loose row of probable barrows (NRHE Hob UID 1518301, 1518306, 1518308). Three further probable Bronze Age barrows are situated in the adjacent field (MDOs 46501/46507/46508), extending the loose row to the southwest. A further barrow group (NRHE Hob UID 1518310) is located just over 500m to the east. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
