Full Description
A Bronze Age ring ditch probably from a round barrow seen as a cropmark on 2007 aerial photography. <1>
This ring ditch appears in a group with two smaller ring ditches along the line of a linear ditch.
A possible Bronze Age round barrow to the northeast of Rail Clump, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as a sub-circular ring ditch on a 2007 aerial photograph <1> and as a low banked mound on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is approximately 30m in diameter and might be one of a loose row of probable barrows (NRHE Hob UID 1518301, 1518306, 1518308). Three further probable Bronze Age barrows are situated in the adjacent field (MDOs 46501/46507/46508), extending the loose row to the southwest. A further barrow group (NRHE Hob UID 1518310) is located just over 500m to the east. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
