Full Description

A possible ring ditch is visible as cropmarks on air photographs taken 25th July 2001 <1>. Aligned northwest-southeast, and located just 1 metre northeast of scheduled bowl barrow SY 99 NW 75, the ditch defines an area up to 23 metres by 16 metres, and appears to comprise a larger circle with a smaller one at its southeastern end. Note also the possibility that it may represent a feature adapted during the landscaping of the nearby park or even constructed for it.

A probable Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible as a ring ditch cropmark and earthworks on aerial photographs and current Environment Agency Lidar imagery <2-4>. The feature appears to comprise an inner mound of approximately 13m diameter and an outer ditch, visible as a ring ditch cropmark that appears to consist of a larger sub-circular ditch at the northwest end and a possible smaller additional sub-circular ring-ditch of approximately 10m diameter conjoining with this at the feature's southeastern end <2>. The feature may be two conjoined barrows, or perhaps could be an additional or other feature - NRHE Hob UID 1382978 suggests a possible garden feature. The lidar imagery is inconclusive, suggesting just a possible mound with no clearly visible additional feature conjoining to the southeast <4>.

The feature is situated within a larger barrow group and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
