Summary

A group of hollows is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery in the vicinity of the Roman Road, west of Bagwood Road, Bere Down. They cover an area of 14 hectares and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project. They are possibly on the site of an Iron Age or Romano British settlement site decribed by Hutchin (1863) and are considered likely to be the sites of post medieval chalk pits.

A group of hollows is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery <1-2> in the vicinity of the Roman Road, west of Bagwood Road, Bere Down. They cover an area of 14 hectares and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project. They are possibly on the site of an Iron Age or Romano British settlement site decribed by Hutchin (1863) <3> and are considered likely to be the sites of post medieval chalk pits.
