Full Description
'A silver penny of William the Lion from Shaftesbury. Mr R.N.R. Peers reports the identification, by Mrs M.M. Archibald of the Department of Coins and Medals, British Museum, of a silver penny of William the Lion (1165-1240) found in the garden of Bramblings, 7 Tanyard Lane, St. James, Shaftesbury, by the son of the owner, Mr G.W Cryer, and submitted by the latter. The coin was minted in Berwick by Hue Walters c. 1200.' (1)
