Summary

A mound thought to be a Bronze Age bowl barrow excavated by Herbert Druitt in 1909. Another barrow near by was also excavated by Druitt, who also found a cremation cemetery. The mound was composed largely composed of burnt earth, charcoal and calcined flints, and this may have been the spot where cremations took place.

Full Description

Two Barrows excavated by H. Drewitt in 1909. … 'B' - A smaller barrow, diameter 24ft., height 1 1/2ft some 50 paces S.W. of 'A' near the railway bridge. It consisted almost entirely of burnt earth, charcoal and calcined flints. This mound was probably the spot where the cremations took place. <2>

The majority of the finds from the urnfield are held by Christchurch Museum. <4>
