It is surrounded on the southern side by an arc of spoil. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project.

A hollow is visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery to the north of Great Coll Wood, Sturminster Marshall <1>. It is 22m across and considered likely to be a post medieval chalk pit.
