Monument record MDO45977 - Second World War training area, The Down House, Blandford St Mary

The possible site of a Second World War training area is visible as earthworks on RAF aerial photographs taken in 1947 to the south and west of the military camp described in MDO45813, within the grounds of The Down House, Blandford St Mary. It comprises a group of 43 features, mainly impact craters and some short linear earthworks possibly the result of trenching. They have since been plough-levelled but some are still faintly visible as very low earthworks on lidar imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.
