Full Description
The possible site of a Second World War training area is visible as earthworks on RAF aerial photographs taken in 1947 <1-2> to the south and west of the military camp described in MDO45813, within the grounds of The Down House, Blandford St Mary. It comprises a group of 43 features, mainly impact craters and some short linear earthworks possibly the result of trenching. They have since been plough-levelled but some are still faintly visible as very low earthworks on lidar imagery <3>. The site was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.
