Full Description

A bowl barrow, known as Bug Barrow according to Mrs M E Cunnington. <2>

This mound has every appearance of being perfectly natural, any form of measurement is quite impossible and it bears no resemblance to any known form of tumulus. <3>

The feature shown on the 1902 6" and 1956 25" is nothing more than a steep natural bluff which has been scarped in the interests of the dwellings beneath it. It bears no resemblance to a barrow, nor
is there any trace of a barrow on it. 'Bugbarrow' may once have applied to a tumulus, but when Hutchins wrote it was the name of a 'hamlet' of Bere Regis which comprised three houses and the School. Grinsell adds 'natural?' in his published 'Dorset Barrows'. <4>
