Summary

An area of ridged cultivation to the west of Atwell's Copse, Corfe Mullen, is visible as narrow earthworks on a 1945 aerial photograph. The features occupy a large historic field and may be those of ridge and furrow cultivation of possibly medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

An area of ridged cultivation to the west of Atwell's Copse, Corfe Mullen, is visible as narrow earthworks on a 1945 aerial photograph [1]. The features occupy a large historic field and may be those of ridge and furrow cultivation of possibly medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. They are no longer visible on current lidar imagery.
