Summary

Areas of ridged cultivation and curvilinear ditched and banked field boundaries and/or trackways to the northeast of Mountain Clump, Corfe Mullen, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are considered to form part of a medieval to post medieval field system, possibly associated with a deserted medieval settlement to the west (MDO5463). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Areas of ridged cultivation and curvilinear ditched and banked field boundaries and/or trackways to the northeast of Mountain Clump, Corfe Mullen, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features are considered to be areas of probable medieval ridge and furrow form and associated field boundaries and/or trackways forming part of a medieval to post medieval field system, possibly associated with a deserted medieval settlement to the west (MDO5463). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The northern part of the field system is no under the extended quarry associated with the Knoll Brickworks.
