Summary

An area of ridged cultivation to the south of Mountain Clump, Corfe Mullen, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features may be those of ridge and furrow cultivation of possibly medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. They are contained on their east side by a banked field boundary of likely contemporary date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

An area of ridged cultivation to the south of Mountain Clump, Corfe Mullen, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features may be those of ridge and furrow cultivation of possibly medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. They are contained on their east side by a banked field boundary of likely contemporary date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
