Monument record MDO45828 - Bronze Age ring ditch, Wimborne St Giles

A line of 3 ring ditches (ie MDO45827, MDO45828 and MDO45829) is visible as cropmarks on air photographs. The three are very close together and arranged on an approximate east-west line. This ring ditch is approximately 12 meters in diameter and is the middle of the three.

[NGD note 06-03-23: The following information from the NRHE-to-HER database provides 2 different sets of coordinates for each of the 3 ring ditches that form the tight cluster of ring ditches described. It is not clear whether this therefore implies that the originally listed coordinates are off or whether there are in fact more than 3 ring ditches. Only 1 of the 3 sets of coordinates (ie that for Wimborne St Giles 131 and ‘B’) is quoted twice. It is not clear why the relative sequencing does not survive from the 1st to the 2nd listing. The ring ditches have been added to the QGIS map using the 1st set of coordinates. – if the 2nd set had been used it couldn’t be presumed that the monument names of Wimborne St Giles 129-131 would maintain the same order of A-C.]

A rapid examination of air photographs <2.1> confirms the presence of three ring ditches just south-west of Nine Yews:-
