Full Description

A complex comprising linears and enclosures is visible as cropmarks on air photographs taken July 25th 2001. A possible sub-circular or oval enclosure at ST 95881408 is around 40 metres across. However, the eastern half in particular is not very clear, and it is not certain that a complete enclosure circuit exists. It is approached from the west by a linear feature which appears to cross the enclosure circuit, though it is not clear which was the earlier. The linear can be traced running southwest away from the enclosure for some 90 metres, before turning a near-right angle and heading southeast for a further 70 metres, at which point it appears to terminate abruptly. This southern stretch of the linear is also by far the broadest. The line of this SE-NW stretch is also continued in a north westerly direction for at least 200 metres by a discontinuous (or interrupted) linear, while additional short lengths of linear and rectilinear ditch are also faintly visible. 100 metres northwest of the circular enclosure, at ST 95801420, is a subrectangular enclosure which appears to feature at least 2 broadly concentric outer ditches around its northern and eastern sides. The entire complex is presumed to be broadly later prehistoric in date, or possibly Roman, although further detail is needed on both the form and extent of the principal features and their inter-relationships. The field in which they occur also features numerous small pit-like cropmarks, though many are unlikely to be of archaeological origin. <1>
